Water is removed from the body everyday by different means. Majority of the water is removed from urine. Approximately 1.5 liters per day is removed from the urine. Water is also removed from the sweat, breath and from the bowel.
Requirement of water per day
Men: 3 liters a day
Women: 2.2 liters per day
Children: 1.5 to 2 liters a day
Daily we excrete water from urine, sweat, breath and from bowel. The excreted amount increases with the physical activity like running, jogging and swimming. When the water supply to the body is less than the water demand of the body, dehydration occurs. When the body is under dehydration, brain starts providing thirst signals and the antidiuretic hormone is released to prevent the loss of water from the urine.
Feeling of thirst and increase in water intake is an initial sign for dehydration
Symptoms:
Untreated dehydration can have adverse effects on the body. Body cells lose water and shrink. Cell damage can occur. The extended dehydration can lead to coma and death.
